Who is Eligible and How It Works – Wake County
- Any student who attends public, private or Home School, does not have a Learner’s Permit or Driver License, and has NEVER taken Driver Education in North Carolina before.
- The student must either attend school in Wake County or live in Wake County (a boarding school student, for example).
- The student must be between 14 ½ to 18 years of age.
- Students must pay the $45 fee
1. 18 year old students still enrolled in high school may take Driver Education but must obtain their Learner’s Permit prior to doing the driving phase.
2. Age eligible students in Wake County who attend Middle School, private school, charter school or home school may sign up for an after school class at a public high school IF their schedule permits. They must be able to arrive on time each day. These students may also register for any classes on the additional classes list which are available if they qualify to attend.
Once eligibility requirements are met, what's next?
