The Jordan Driving School Story

During the 1991-1992 school year, the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction informed local education agencies (LEA's) that driver education would be removed from the regular school day. LEA's were given the option of teaching driver education with regular staff before and after school hours or contracting with a commercial driving school. The Wake Co. Public School System opted to contract with a commercial driving school and selected Jordan Driving School, Inc.

Jordan Driving School, Inc. (JDS) was founded in 1991 by Lorraine Jordan, a WCPSS driver education teacher, who wanted to maintain the integrity and professionalism of driver education. In addition, to providing driver education instruction to all eligible public school students, the contracts include charter school students, private school students, and home school students. Driver education is a state funded program based on current ninth-grade enrollment. The transition from a regular school day program to a program offered by JDS was extremely smooth. This was accomplished mainly because JDS was able to employ all of the former public school driver education instructors in the Wake County system, which is where Lorraine Jordan got her first contract.

Since 1991, JDS has contracted with many school systems throughout North Carolina. Today, JDS currently contracts with the Wake County Schools and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
